COCHRAN, Ga. | The Truett McConnell softball team won a very close ballgame in the first half of a doubleheader, 3-2, before Middle Georgia woke up and used a six-run second inning to claim a split of the series by a score of 11-3. The Bears are now 12-4 on the season as they head into the start of Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

In game one, the Bears and Knights found themselves in a pitchers’ duel with TMU’s Bethany Hyde and MGA’s Raygan Larson going pitch for pitch against each other. TMU struck first in the top of the second when Peyton Wilson plated Reba Jones on a sacrifice fly. The Knights answered in the bottom of the third on a double to knot the score, 1-1.

After the Knights took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, the Bears answered by tying the game in the sixth off a Sara Sullivan homer to left field. TMU pushed the winning run across the plate in the seventh by playing small-ball and bunting Olivia Darley around after a leadoff double.

Game two saw the Knights’ bats come to life, plating three runs in the first and six runs in the second. TMU plated three in the top of the fourth inning starting with a Sarah Horne two RBI single with two on, but MGA came up with two more in the bottom of the fifth to claim the win.

The Bears have a week off before kicking off AAC play on the road at St. Andrews. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 1 p.m. next Wednesday.
