(CLEVELAND) – After a tied halftime score (31-31), the Truett McConnell University men’s basketball team fell in regulation to Bluefield College (74-63) on Saturday evening inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Bears recorded their 12th straight loss (6-14, 2-13 AAC), while the Rams improved to 9-12, 7-8 AAC on the season.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The first half saw a tied game eight times, the Bears earn their largest lead of four points and the Rams earn their largest lead of three points. However, the Rams scored in the first minute of the second half and the Bears were unable to get out front the rest of the way. Bluefield pushed to lead by as many as seven in the first nine minutes but an Antonio Bonilla 3-pointer and Enocka Franky bucket in the paint tied the game back up with 10:24 remaining. Nonetheless, Bluefield drained three straight 3-pointers to allow a double-digit lead (51-61) and the closest TMU got the rest of the way was by eight points (59-67).

Overall, the Bears outscored the Rams in the paint 36-30 but Bluefield made eight 3-pointers in comparison to TMU’s five.

LEADERS

Franky led all scorers with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Three more Bears recorded double-digit points; Brent Kelly and Darius Thrower each scored 11 and Bonilla added 10. Franky added two blocks and Kelly was credited four assists.

The Bears are on the road Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Bryan College, but will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4:00 p.m., to host Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Milligan College.
