TMU Baseball2-19-17

CLEVELAND | After giving up the first three runs of the game and sitting through a near hour-long rain delay, the Truett McConnell baseball team put up five runs in the fourth inning and held on late to secure a 5-4 win over Trinity Baptist.

The Bears started off the fourth inning with three singles from the two, three and four spots in the lineup in Chris Carden, Patrick Overstreet and Tate Gaines. After Andrew Fogarty drew a walk, Austin Thomas cleared the bases with a double to take the lead at 4-3. Calob Rowland followed up the double with a RBI single of his own to stretch it to a 5-3 game.

Trinity Baptist brought the game to within one in the seventh and had runners on second and third in the top of the ninth, but Evan Bensch clamped down, forcing a shallow fly out and a ground out to clinch the win.

Carden and Rowland led the way at the plate for TMU with two hits each.

The Bears will next take on NCAA Division II opponent Southern Wesleyan at home on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
