Jack Bandy, Daniel Green, Ben Bandy

(Cleveland)- Three young men have been recognized for their life-saving efforts earlier this year in White County.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said a special recognition was held Friday, August 28th for Daniel Greene, age 15 of White County, 17-year old Jack Bandy and 15-year old Ben Bandy, both of Oconne County.

According to Murphy, a male victim was injured while cutting a tree back on May 30th of this year in northern White County.  The three youth were swimming and heard a chain saw running. They noticed it had been idling longer than it should have, said Murphy.

The youth decided to check things out and found the victim had been hit in the head with the top of a tree.  Next, one of them ran up the hill to get phone service to dial 911, while another stayed with the subject while another young man ran to the end of the road to guide emergency responders.

White County Fire Services, Helen Fire Department, White County EMS, and Life-Flight were dispatched to Covered Bridge Road.

Chief Seth Weaver of White County Fire Services said “These young men’s quick action helped with the speedy response of First Responders, due to the subject being alone in a rural area of the county.”

All three young men received a certificate of appreciation for their life-saving efforts from White County Public Safety.
