DAHLONEGA – Shooting was red-hot inside the UNG Convocation Center as the University of North Georgia women’s basketball team amped up the heat by outshooting Clayton State by a final score of 89-68. The night was highlighted by Amber Skidgel surpassing the 1,000 career point mark to become the second player in as many games to join the elite club.

The game was all UNG as the Nighthawks went on an early 9-2 run to start the game. Never trailing, the Nighthawks controlled the tempo of the game with the lead stretching to 73-46 at one point during the fourth quarter. Amber Skidgelwas North Georgia’s leading scorer, scoring 19 on the night.

UNG shot at a 50 percent clip (35-for-70) from the floor, including a third quarter where North Georgia went 11-for-14 from the field.

NOTES
– UNG took advantage of the paint, converting missed shots into offensive rebounds and second chance shots. UNG outrebounded Clayton State, 51-39.

– With a 77.8 percent (14-for-18) shooting margin behind the charity stripe, the Nighthawks took advantage of every Laker foul, and in return, held the Lakers to just 16-for-31 behind the line.

– Abbie Franklin had 17 points on the night, while Tamera Thorpe was one rebound short of a double-double, scoring 16 points with her nine boards. Vanessa Agrusa and Faith Arthur each added 12 points, a career high for Arthur.
