(JOHNS CREEK, Ga.) – The No. 9 Truett McConnell University women’s golf team competed in the 2024 Georgia State Invitational, where the Lady Bears were the only team representing the NAIA in a field of NCAA D1 universities. The invite consisted of three rounds, with the third round canceled due to inclement weather.

“This golf course was very difficult, and the ladies played the course much longer in this D1 tournament than they typically play in an NAIA event,” said Head Coach Steve Patton. “In round two the ladies were very competitive against the field, actually shooting lower than approximately half the field.”

The Lady Bears embraced a new level of competition in round one as seen by the struggling scores but rallied together in round two to show their grit and proved to be worthy competitors. Jala Stamey led the ladies in round two with a 74, followed by Sylken November and Nicoline Eide who individually shot a 78 and Madison Panter who an 81.

“This tournament will help us in the future to know the areas we need to work on, and also give us some confidence how we finished. We got in five holes of round three and we were poised to shoot even lower that round, closing in on moving up several spots when the tournament was called.”

Up next, TMU will travel to Cohutta, Ga. on Monday, April 8 – Tuesday, April 9, where the Lady Bears are set to compete at Dalton State College.
