(GREENEVILLE, Tenn.) – The No. 11 University of North Georgia women’s tennis team swept Tusculum on the road Wednesday with a 7-0 non-conference victory.

UNG remains undefeated at 4-0 with the win ahead of a tough upcoming opponent in No. 18 Auburn Montgomery.

The 7-0 sweep marks the first sweep of the year for the Nighthawks as they’ve lost just three matches in total all season.

In the doubles matches, seniors Viktorie Wojcikova and Johanna Lippert cruised to a 6-1 victory over Tusculum’s senior Loretz sisters, Paulina and Valentina.

Junior Angelina Linnikova and senior Svetlana Teterina one upped their teammates from the first doubles match by dominating in a 6-0 fashion in the #2 line.

In singles, UNG boasted a pair of wins from its ITA ranked members.

No. 5 Linnikova took down Valentina Loretz 6-4, 6-2 en route to the win.

No. 23 Lippert won her opening set against sophomore Ylva Frafjord Landa 6-4. However, Frafjord Landa responded by evening the match at a set a piece with a 7-5 victory in the second. Lippert was able to control the third set and gain the victory with a 6-3 win to close it out.

Multiple tiebreaker victories headlined two of the other four wins for UNG.

Wojcikova stumbled in the first set to Paulina Loretz 6-3, but took the second 7-6 behind a 7-4 tiebreaker. She would steady herself for an easy 6-1 win in the final set, thus winning her singles match.

Senior Valentina Ascarrunz also won in a tiebreaker. After taking the first set, 6-3, Ascarrunz battled against senior Johanna Palacio in the second set. Ascarrunz would gut out the win in the tiebreaker at 7-4 to win the second set and match.

Now the Nighthawks prepare to face their first ranked opponent of the year as No. 18 Auburn Montgomery makes the trip to Dahlonega Saturday, Feb. 24. The match is set to begin from the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek at 2 p.m.
