City Councilman Rush Mauney

(Cleveland)- Cleveland Ward 1 City Councilman Rush Mauney has announced that he will run for the office of Mayor of Cleveland in the November general election.  Mauney, who is  62, has served as councilman since 1996.  In  making the announcement last week, Mauney stated that after current Mayor Don Stanley told him that he will not seek reelection,  he felt it was time to step up to the next level in city government.

Mauney also serves on the board of directors for both the White County Historical Society and White County Family Connections.  He is a life-long resident of Cleveland, along with his wife Sharon and daughter Jessamine.  Mauney operates an antique, gift and home accessory store, Erwin Rush, located on the downtown square in Cleveland.  He is also the CEO and a partner of GlobalTech Industries/Habersham Candle in Cornelia, GA.  His wife Sharon operates LoganBerry Heritage Farm outside Cleveland on Adair Mill Road.

He believes that his business career and civic experience will enable him to make a greater difference in the community in the role of mayor.

Mauney said, economic development will be a primary goal for him as well as trying to get more citizens interested in attending council meetings and provide input.

A person has already indicated they will be seeking the position being vacated by Cleveland City Councilman Rush Mauney when he runs for Mayor.  Nan Bowen, who says she has called Cleveland home for 60 plus years and has experience as a small business owner  that will enable her to serve the city has said she will qualify for the position.

Bowen in making her intentions know in an email Tuesday said,  I am eager to learn more and I will work to represent Ward 1 in the continued growth of our community.  It is with pride and enthusiasm I seek the Ward 1 city council position.
