(Cleveland)- A longtime White County School System employee was recognized before and during Thursday nights meeting of the board of education. Prior to the meeting, a retirement reception was held for Sandra Dorsey, the person that has been the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendents of schools for the past 31 years.

Dorsey who started with the school system in 1988 recently announced her retirement.

Her first boss Raymond Collins talked about selecting Dorsey for the job  “ She was already working in the school system, I knew she had very good qualifications, she was a person who was kind,  gracious, and good with children and so the opportunity came and I hired her as secretary for the school system and I think the rest of the story tells itself after 31 years here she is ready to retire, “ said Collins.

During the board meeting, current superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett presented Dorsey with a plaque and recognized her dedicated service to the school system.

Dorsey said “ It’s been more like a journey and I have been blessed beyond measure of all the friends, the co-workers, board members, and staff. It’s like an extended family and I just feel humbled today because I didn’t expect all this.  There has been a lot of changes, the timing is just right for me it’s a time that things are running smooth and everything is good, so it’s time for me to go home and be with Ken ( her husband) for whatever time we have left.”

Earlier this week the board of education approved the in house transfer of Lin Pahl to fill Dorsey’s position.
