(Clarkesville)- As an electric membership cooperative owned by the members they serve, Habersham Electric Membership Corporation is committed to giving back to the community. House Bill 431 allows EMCs in Georgia to use capital credits that go unclaimed for five years to fund education, economic development and 501(c)3 charitable organizations in our service area. In 2017, HEMC donated a total of $28, 215 in unclaimed capital credits. Four community groups in White County were recipients of capital credit funds, Community Helping Hands Clinic, Inc. $2,500; White County High School TV $2,000; White County Food Pantry $2,000 and White County Historical Society $1,000. Other Northeast Georgia organizations receiving funds include:
