DAHLONEGA – Down by one going into the bottom of the ninth, timely hitting followed by Conner Corbitt‘s walk off double lifted the University of North Georgia baseball team past Winston-Salem State to clinch the series win, 8-7, Sundayafternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.

Despite the constant rainfall throughout the duration of the contest, UNG and WSSU battled back-and-forth from start to finish. The Rams were first on the board again in game three, as a miscue in the first allowed Randy Norris to score on a Nighthawk error. But UNG was able to get it back and then some in the second due to a two-run homer from Nick Clarnoto get a 2-1 lead.

Winston-Salem took the lead back in the fifth frame. An infield single and a drawn walk for Norris and John Garcia put runners on base for Cole Parks, whose three-run shot to center put the Rams up again at 5-3. But, the Nighthawks came back in the sixth with a RBI double from Clarno to tie at 5-5.

The Rams pulled away again in the seventh, 7-5, after four walks issued from the UNG pitching staff, but once again North Georgia’s Clarno was able to get it back with another RBI double to narrow the gap to just 7-6.

Now down by one in the bottom of the ninth, Josh Profit led off with a bunt single to put the tying run on base for the Nighthawks. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Sudduth, bringing up Andres Perez who blazed a ground single up the middle to score Profit and tie it up 7-7. Then Corbitt doubled off left field wall to score Perez from first and win it, 8-7.
