(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Commissioners are exploring a fee charge for certain users of Freedom Park in downtown Cleveland. The commission board discussed the idea at a work session Monday.
Commissioner Terry Goodger said there were some legal regulation that would make it necessary to charge commercial type and for profit groups. Goodger said he was bringing it before the group for consideration.
Commission chairman Travis Turner said he wanted to make it clear, not-for-profit groups would not be charged. “ We’re all of us in agreement here that for civic functions and what have you, there would be no charge for that, ” Turner said.
Commissioner Edwin Nix echoed that he said, “ that park was built for the citizens of the county.” Nix also urged the board to look further than just Freedom Park in their consideration. Nix said, “ while we’re thinking about that we need to think about Yonah Preserve, because that’s next, that’s what’s coming up next.”
Yonah Preserve is a large recreation area being developed by the county north of Cleveland.
The commission will be looking at a fee schedule and take action on that at a future meeting.
