(Cleveland)- White County Board of Commissioners has approved the use of money from an Opioid Settlement Funds to be used for drug education in the county.

Sheriff Rick Kelley made the request to the commissioners during this week’s commission work session and called commission meeting.

The sheriff wants the settlement amount of $80,876.07 to be designated for drug education over the next 5 years which would fund the Junior Deputy CHAMPS program and other drug awareness events.

Sheriff Rick Kelley said, “with the ever-growing opioid drug problem in our community, these funds would be a great opportunity to make a positive impact on our children. CHAMPS by far is the most important program that we do at the sheriff’s office and we’ve been struggling for several years with funding for it so this is a great opportunity  for the citizens of White County and the youth for the drug education fund, so it’s a win, win all the way around.”
