Charlene Kent presents her request before Cleveland City Council for zoning change

(Cleveland)- The Cleveland City Council Monday night  voted to uphold a decision by the city’s  zoning board to deny a request to rezone an approximately 1 acre lot  in the city located at 108 East Underwood Street from Residential  to Highway Commercial.

Following a presentation by Zoning Board Chair Nadine Wardenga about  a hearing in May at which time the board voted to deny the request several area  residents  who attended Monday’s meeting expressed their wishes that the area remain residential.

There were a few people who spoke in favor of the change.

Charlene Kent had requested the zoning change for the purpose operating an event facility on the property,  located at the corner of East Underwood and Quillian Streets .

Kent has renovated, what is known as, the Old  Allen House in the city.  Several of those who packed the city hall annex Monday  said they applaud  what Kent had done with the renovations, but she should have obtained the zoning change before she began the process.

In the end the council voted unanimously to side with the zoning board.
