GEMA Logo(Cleveland)- The cities of  Cleveland and Helen will get new fixed generators for their police departments thanks to federal grants from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency  and the Department of Homeland Security.  Cleveland and Helen both received identical $25,257 grants for a generator for its police department, some local funding is required.

“Preparing in advance for potential disasters makes the whole community safer. The generator will allow these critical facilities to continue serving the public if power fails during severe weather events or other emergencies,” said GEMA/HS Director Jim Butterworth in a news release.

The funding comes from GEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, “which provides funds to state agencies and local governments for projects that reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from the effects of natural hazards by breaking the repetitive cycle of destruction and reconstruction.
