(Cleveland)-White County held a dedication ceremony Saturday for the new Yonah Preserve Athletic Complex, located just behind the current recreation facility on Asbestos Road, north of Cleveland.
The weather woes were replaced by beautiful partly cloudy skies, which help accent perfectly manicured four baseball and softball fields the latest part of the development of the 1,000 acres Yonah Preserve property.
White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner in his opening remarks said for more than thirty years he had hoped for cloverleaf ballfield complex in the county.
Special guest for the event included Randy Spivey, President of Georgia Parks and Recreation Association and Steve Card, GRP Executive Director along with Former Governor Nathan Deal and wife Sandra.
Deal praised White County For the great things being done at Yonah Preserve, “ Ya’ll have done a great job with this property and I envision that it will grow and expand and your gonna become a destination spot, ” commented Deal.
Commissioner Turner said 2 years ago they began work on what is now 9-10 miles of walking and biking trails, now these ballfields, next will be a new football field and he announced Saturday a children’s playground to be located next to the softball/baseball fields.
White County Parks and Recreation Director Joe Gailey said it was great to see the community to come out for the event and they have plans to put the ballfields to good use the rest of this year.
