(Cleveland)- White County officials say except for several trees that were blown down and many areas of the county which experienced power outages Tuesday the county faired well, as a weather system moved through the area. White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said, there were several incidents were trees were blown down, but no major problems. Many homes and businesses had to deal with power outages during the afternoon.
At one point over 2,000 Habersham Electric Customers in their service area were without power, according to their outage map and a good portion of Georgia Power customers in the city of Cleveland were with out power, some in the dark up to two hours.
Along with the high winds that blew down trees the area saw some heavy rain. Bill Kinsland, WRWH Weather reporter advised he received 1-point 91 inches of rain at the Sautee weather station for the period of 7 AM until 7 PM Tuesday.
During that same time we received just over two inches, 2.05 inches, here at WRWH. Bill advised that the automated weather station in Blairsville at the Georgia Mountain Experiment Station measured 4-point 28 inches.
In Helen, they received just over two inches of rain as well and Bill advised that the Chattahoochee River crested at 5:45 PM at 3.14 ft which is 2.24 ft above the normal level of 0.90 ft. (Flood stage is 6 ft.)
