CLEARWATER, Fla. – Bria Bush tossed 4.1 innings of shutout softball as the No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team finished off the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 6-0 win over California (PA) Sunday morning.

The Nighthawks put up three runs in the third inning, starting with Hobby Gregory scoring on a Kaylee Womack single to center. Alishia Frierson plated Womack on a RBI single just two pitches later to put UNG up, 2-0. Frierson came around to score on a Vulcan error to push the lead to three.

Womack brought home another run in the fifth, plating Kaylyn Anthony on a sacrifice fly that took the lead to 4-0. Olivia Sinquefield was responsible for the final two runs of the game, tripling in the sixth to score Kelly Kahlert and then scoring herself on a Vulcan error.

NOTES
– Bush (1-1) gave up just three hits and three walks in her 4.1 innings to earn the win. Kylee Smith came in for 1.2 innings and struck out three before Riley Patton and Lauren Beshears combined to finish the seventh.

– Katie Collins finished 2-for-2 at the plate to lead UNG.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will host The Cottrell Foundation Loyal Blue Classic next weekend at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium. UNG will open the weekend playing Southern Wesleyan on Friday at noon.
