ANDERSON, S.C. – Starting the game on a 10-0 run, the No. 20 University of North Georgia women’s basketball team cruised to a 91-53 win over Emmanuel in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Friday afternoon at Anderson’s Abney Center.

The Lions cut the lead down to 16-10 midway through the first quarter, but the Nighthawks answered with a 10-3 run to end the quarter and then proceeded to give up just nine points in the second quarter to take a big lead into halftime, 46-22.

UNG continued to roll in the second half, outscoring Emmanuel, 45-33, in the second half to advance to the regional semifinals tomorrow afternoon.

NOTES
– Amber Skidgel led all scorers with 24 points, while Julianne Sutton added 18. Tamera Thorpe put up 15 points in the win as all nine Nighthawks put points in the scoring column.

– North Georgia is a perfect 3-0 in NCAA Regional opening round games in program history.

– The Nighthawks assisted on 24 of 33 made buckets. They also turned over the Lions 19 times for 26 points.

NEXT UP
North Georgia will face off against Wingate for a second straight year in the semifinal round after the Bulldogs beat Clayton State, 76-66, in the first game of the day. Tipoff Saturday is set for 5 p.m. and will be carried live on Glory 97.9 and AM 1330.
