THOMASVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 9, 2019) – The No. 20 Truett McConnell University softball team swept Thomas University, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, on Saturday afternoon to earn their second straight sweep and win their seventh straight game. The Bears defeated the Night Hawks 1-0 and 10-3 to improve to 7-1 on the year.

GAME ONE (1-0)
Freshman Briley Lawson doubled in the bottom of the first to send Sara Sullivan across home plate for the winning run. Bases were loaded in the top of the fifth inning for TMU but the Night Hawk’s held the nationally ranked Lady Bears to one inning but it proved just enough as Bethany Hyde was credited the win after pitching a complete one hit shutout all the while striking out seven.

Brie Levy and Peyton Wilson also earned a hit for TMU.

GAME TWO (10-3)
The Lady Bears secured their second straight sweep after earning another run in the top of the first and it was only up from there. TMU led the rest of the way scoring nine more times (10-3). As a whole, the Lady Bears tallied 11 hits and had zero defensive errors.

Karley Hobbs earned her fourth win of her sophomore campaign after pitching a complete game.

Levy led the way going 4-for-4 including a triple. Sophomore Kathrine Kozlowski and freshman Alicia Price went 2-for-4 while junior Jaden Morrison went 2-for-5. In addition, freshman Kataryna Fuller earned his first collegiate hit.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“0 errors and over 10 hits in game two; any day that happens you put yourself in a great situation to win,” Head Coach Jenni Shepard said. “Hyde and Hobbs once again had stellar innings and we played hard for the win.”

The Lady Bears are back on the road Saturday, Feb. 16, at Faulkner University, to face Faulkner and the University of the Cumberlands.
