CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 29, 2019) – The No. 16 Truett McConnell University softball team won their sixth and seventh straight Appalachian Athletic Conference wins with a sweep over Brenau University, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, on the road (3-0, 5-0). The Lady Bears improved to 28-6, 13-1 AAC on the year while the Golden Tigers fell to 22-6, 11-5 AAC.

GAME ONE (3-0)

After a scoreless two innings, the Lady Bears recorded the only three runs of the game in the top of the third. Junior Sara Sullivan swung for a RBI single (1-0) and senior Brie Levy’s sacrifice fly drove home fellow senior Kaitlynn Johnson (2-0). Freshman Briley Lawsonfollowed up with a double to deep right-center field which scored Sullivan (3-0).

The Golden Tigers were held to four hits the rest of the way. Sophomore Karley Hobbs was credited her first win of the night after throwing six innings in which she walked one and struck out two.

LEADERS

Freshman Alicia Price led the way going 2-for-3 while Sullivan, Lawson and Macey Dunaway all added a hit apiece.

GAME TWO (5-0)

TMU’s runs came at different times in the game this time around. Pinch hitter Sarah Wills drove in the first run of the game at the top of the second with a sacrifice fly to left field (1-0). After holding the Golden Tigers hitless and scoreless in the bottom of the second, Lawson went on to score Sullivan in the top of the third on a single to center field (2-0).

After Dunaway reached base on a defensive error in the top of the fourth, Liz Bunton moved Dunaway over on a sacrifice bunt and Jaden Morrison drove Dunway across home plate with a double to deep left-center (3-0). Johnson then singled to left field to score Morrison (4-0).

Still holding Brenau hitless and scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning, Johnson smoked her first out of the park homerun on a 1-2 count in the top of the sixth (5-0) to further put the game out of reach for the Golden Tigers.

LEADERS

Johnson led going 3-for-4 at the plate while Lawson went 2-for-4. Sullivan and Morrison added a hit apiece.

Hobbs earned her 19th win of the season after throwing a complete game allowing four hits, walking one while striking out three. Hobbs now has an impressive AAC-leading ERA of 1.27 and holds her opponents to a batting average of .192.
