AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of North Georgia women’s tennis player Vaishali Jorge was named the Peach Belt Player of the Week Monday by the league office.

Jorge had an outstanding week with wins in all three of her singles matches with a 2-1 mark in doubles. The No. 3 ranked singles player in the nation began with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 win over Tusculum’s Emilie Hansen, then followed up with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Augusta’s Ana Faria to begin conference play. Jorge finished with a massive 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) rally over Carson-Newman’s Ali Harris.

In doubles, the sophomore from London, England, partnered with Holly Bennett to beat the #1 doubles teams from Augusta and Carson-Newman, falling to Tusculum 6-4. Jorge is 6-1 overall in singles play and 4-3 in doubles.

The Nighthawks will battle Georgia College Wednesday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek. First serve will be at 1 p.m.
