(Cleveland)- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County continues to slowly decline as health care workers continue to vaccinate residents who qualify specifically the elderly. 

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that the total number of positive cases in White County was 2,766, with 266 of those requiring hospitalization and 55 death have resulted.  

The White County Schools in their weekly COVID-19 update Wednesday reported 16 students reported positive with 86 students placed in quarantine for possible exposure. One staff member tested positive while 5 staff were placed in quarantine for possible exposure. 

The school system will observe an extended weekend/ winter break starting Friday and running through Tuesday of next week and it is hoped that that break will help in the spread of the virus to other students.
