(Acworth)- The White County Mountain Bike teams participated in their second race of the season on September 22 in Acworth, Georgia. Jeff Defoor, White County High School Mountain Bike Team Head Coach said, “Chase at the Creek” was hot and dry, located at Allatoona Creek Park, but White County High School and Yonah Composite teams had another good showing.
Defoor said, “Our athletes have been fine tuning their skills over the last couple of weeks, using what they learned in the first race to help improve their efforts. Once again, both teams were recognized as top points earners in their category.” White County High School accumulated a total of 2,124 points providing them with a 3rd place finish out of 22 teams in Division 1. Yonah Composite accumulated a total of 2,013 points earning them a 2nd place finish out of 17 teams in Division 2. In the series, White County is currently in 3rd place in Division 1 and Yonah Composite is Leading Division 2.
White County High School had 7 athletes participate in this race. Anna Kate DeFoor placed 4th in the Varsity girls category and now sits in 5th for the series. In the JV1 boys category, Jesse Bowen took 1st place and now sits in 2nd for the series. Chance Miller took 1st place in the Freshman boys category and now is tied for 1st in the series allowing him to wear the leaders jersey in the next race. In the JV2 category, Alex Wall placed 4th giving him his first appearance on the podium. Also participating in the race were Joe Murphy (JV2), Carter Burford (Freshman), and Benjamin Witcher (Freshman).
White County Middle School had 9 athletes participate again in the race. Three of the athletes achieved a podium finish. Deizel Griffin placed 2nd in 8th grade boys and is 2nd in the series points, Rucker Anderson placed 2nd in 7th grade boys, and Reagan Adams placed 3rd in 7th grade girls. Also participating in the race were Rush Chamberlain (8th grade), Lucas Johnson (8th grade), Gus Brackett (7th grade), Zachary Hogan (7th grade), Jace Caudell (6th grade), and Cole Robbins (6th grade).
The Yonah Composite team had 8 athletes participate in the race. Elizabeth Himstedt placed 5thin Varsity girls category and currently sits in 4th for the series. Olivia Nixon placed 2nd in the JV1 girls category and is now 2nd in the series. Also racing for Yonah Composite were Avery Himstedt (JV1), Brayden Watkins (JV1), Levi Hogan (JV2), and Hope Hogan (Freshman). The Yonah Composite Middle School team had racers Byron Wheeler (8th) and Owen Meinecke (6th) both moved up in their placements.
“ This race, like the last one, wasn’t without its challenges testing our athletes grit and determination. Several of our racers endured obstacles within their race, one even losing his seat along the trail, but finished the race,” said Defoor.
The teams will be back racing at the next race in the series “Duel at Dauset” at Dauset Nature Center in Jackson on October 6th.
