(Cleveland)- The White County Water Authority has approved a material bid for about 6,000 feet of pipe that will be used to extend the county water system out Highway 115 west of Cleveland from the westward end Asbury Mill Road east to the Shoal Creek Fire Station. Following the water authority meeting Thursday Water Authority Director Edwin Nix said crews are out there working now. This extension is part of an overall $2.3-million dollar project to install up to 23 miles of water lines in the county.
Nix said, after the 115 west project is complete they have other work on that side of town. “ we’re going to be on 115 for a while, they’ll go from Asbury Mill Road to the fire station and then they’ll go from Gilstrap Road to Thomason Road on 115. Then we’ll have water lines on 115 to Asbury Mill Road, said Nix. He said even if residents in that area are not ready to connect to the water line now they will befit from this extension, “ those folks out there within five miles of the fire station are going to be within a 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant also, so that’s going to give them a good rate on their insurance.”
The water Authority also approved an update to an intergovernmental agreement with the city of Gainesville that will allow them to use water from White County while they do repair work on a storage in the Clermont area.
