(Cleveland)- The White County Warriors and Yonah Composite Mountain Bike teams just completed their first race of the season this past weekend at Kingston Downs in Rome, GA.  The weather was beautiful and the middle school riders raced on Saturday. 

The course was a challenging 5.5 mile trail with some long climbs that really tested the riders endurance. 

The White County Warriors had 5 middle school racers compete on Saturday, with four of them being new to the team this year. Returning rider Anna Kate DeFoor took 1st place in 8th grade girls by over a minute ahead of the 2nd place finisher.

The Warrior athletes that competed were Anna Kate DeFoor (8th grade girls), Brayden Watkins (7th grade boys), Jesse Bowen (6th grade boys), Chance Miller (6th grade boys) and Asher Stewart (6th grade boys).

The Yonah Composite team had 4 middle school racers, with one new rider and three returning riders. The YC athletes that competed were Elizabeth Himstedt (8th grade girls), Luke DeFoor (7th grade boys), Levi Hogan (7th grade boys), and Hope Hogan (6th grade girls).

The action continued on Sunday with the high school athletes competing. 

White County Warriors had 6 riders competing, with 2 new athletes and 4 returning. The WCW athletes competing were Caeden Allen (JV1 Boys), Jay DeFoor (JV2 Boys), Colt Miller (JV2 Boys), Nathan Witcher (Freshman Boys), Alex Wall (Freshman Boys) and Anna Whitaker (Freshman Girls). 

Yonah Composite team had 6 riders competing, all returning athletes. The YC athletes competing were Shannon Himstedt (Varsity Boys), Gavin Atkinson (JV1 Boys), Sebastian Smidt (JV2 Boys), Avery Himstedt (Freshman Boys), Caitlin LaRue (JV1 Girls) and Brianna LaRue (JV2 Girls). They had some very good results with Caitlin LaRue taking 3rd place in JV1 Girls and Brianna LaRue taking 1st place in JV2 Girls.

Yonah Composite also did fantastic as a team overall and ended up taking 1st place in the Team Results for Division II.

The next competition race in the series will be at Allatoona Creek Park on September 25 & 26.
