DAHLONEGA | A 16-4 Georgia College win snapped the No. 29 University of North Georgia baseball team’s nine-game winning streak, but the Nighthawks fought back to win the rubber game and take the series with a 7-3 victory over the Bobcats Friday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium. North Georgia moves to 12-5 on the year with a 8-1 mark in Peach Belt action.
Game One
The first game of the day belonged to Georgia College from the get-go as the Bobcats scored three in the top of the first. Both teams traded a pair of runs in the fourth, but Georgia College scored unanswered runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth, putting up a crooked number in each frame to take a 16-2 lead into the ninth.
UNG would score two in the bottom of the ninth to give the game its final 16-4 score.
Jacob Beauchamp (3-1) was tagged with his first loss of the year as Georgia College plated five earned runs against the senior in 3.2 innings.
Game Two
The Nighthawks resilience came out in the back end of the twin bill. After giving up a lead off home run to GC’s Jake Sandlin, North Georgia would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Bo Edwards knocked an RBI single out to right to score Steven Tomlinson and tie the game, 1-1.
North Georgia built a lead scratching across single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings off RBI hits from Kevin Krupp, Edwards and Trevor Sams, giving the Nighthawks a 5-1 lead heading to the seventh.
The Bobcats pushed a single run across in both the seventh and the eighth, to pull within two but UNG would get the runs back in the bottom of the eighth as Andrew Gordon sent a two-run home run over the left center wall.
Blake Gaubert (4-0) collected the win on the mound for the Nighthawks working 7.0 innings, allowing only two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Chris Cobb picked up his first save of the year closing out the final 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit.

North Georgia is slated to take on Valdosta State on Wednesday at Bob Stein Stadium. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
