(Atlanta)- The latest Georgia Department of Labor unemployment numbers released Thursday shows White County’s preliminary unemployment rate in May was 6.9 percent, which is down from 10.5 percent revised April rate. The labor department said in May the labor force in the county was 16,519, of those 15,372 were employed and 1,147 were unemployed.
Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Georgia Mountains’ unemployment rate also decreased in May. In the region, the unemployment rate decreased in May to 7.8 percent, a decrease of 2.8 percentage points. A year ago, the rate was only 2.8 percent.
