(WILMORE, Ky. ) – The Truett McConnell University women’s lacrosse team traveled to Asbury College for their third Appalachian Athletic Conference game on Tuesday afternoon and defeated the Eagles 19-6 to remain perfect in the conference. The Lady Bears improved to an overall record of 4-2, 3-0 AAC, which is the most wins recorded in program history.
In the first three minutes of the game, Cameron Lee put up the Lady Bears on the scoreboard first (1-0) and Hope Foster followed up with one of her own less than 10 seconds later (2-0). TMU, in fact, recorded nine unanswered goals (9-0) throughout the first 18 minutes of the game. Asbury was capable of scoring three goals before the end of the first half but freshman Carter Culverhouse found the back of the net to force a running clock 10 seconds before halftime (13-3).
After Hope F. opened up the second half with two more back-to-back goals (15-3), the Eagles responded with their fourth goal (15-4) but TMU continued to score and the game ultimately proved to be out of reach for the Eagles (19-6).
Overall, the Lady Bears outshot the Eagles 25-7 throughout the first half and 16-7 throughout the second half, while 35 of TMU’s shots were on target. TMU only recorded nine turnovers in comparison to the Eagles’ 24, and the Lady Bears tallied 24 ground balls in comparison to Asbury’s 11.
Individually, Hope F. led the way with six goals and 11 shots, with nine on goal. Beach followed with four goals and seven shots, while Culverhouse and Holly Foster added three goals apiece. Holly F. led with two assists, while Lee was credited one. Sophomore Christian Roberts tallied a total of four saves on the day.
