(WALESKA, Ga.) – The Truett McConnell University men’s basketball team traveled to Appalachian Athletic Conference rival, Reinhardt University, where the Bears remained perfect in AAC play with a 74-57 victory over the Eagles. TMU rises to a record of 4-1, 4-0 AAC, while the Eagles fall to 1-5, 1-3 AAC.

The Bears were hot out of the gates with a three-pointer from EJ Smith, followed by a layup from Brent Kelly and CJ Brown. TMU collected a large, early lead seeing free throws from Brown and a three-point shot from Kelly. A free throw from Cory Seitz and Enocka Franky increased the margin, where two successful free throws from Akil Covington continued to add to the score. The Eagles mustered a few shots of their own, but a fast break saw back-to-back jump shots from Raul Arias-Ortega. The Eagles managed to come within one, but a layup from Brown gave TMU a 36-33 lead going into the half.
In the second half, two shots from Arias-Ortega and a three-pointer from Brown gave the Bears early momentum, seeing a three-point shot from Smith and Brown. The Bears continued to increase their lead with free throws from Brown, a three-pointer from RJ Bryant, and a layup off a fast break from Franky. The Eagles were unable to keep pace with the Bears, where a free throw and layup from Kafunba Toure secured a 74-57 victory.
Arias-Ortega led the way with 18 points, going 7-11 within the paint. Brown followed with 15 points of his own, going 2-2 behind the three-point arc and 3-3 at the free throw line. Kelly tallied 11 points, going 4-6 at the free throw line with five rebounds. Franky led the way with 11 rebounds, while recording seven points.
The Bears remain on the road and head to Athens, Tennessee on Thursday, November 17 to face AAC rival Tennessee Wesleyan University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
