(LAKE WALES, Fla. ) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men’s soccer team went face-to-face with Warner University, where a double overtime battle resulted in a tied 1-1 game. The Bears are now sitting at a season record of 1-0-1, while the Royals sit at a record of 1-0-2.

The Bears hit the field hot, starting with a blocked shot by Callum Smith and an earned corner kick taken by Jez Walker-Patterson. Warner made their way to the visitor’s side of the field, taking shots of their own and hit the board in the 13th minute (0-1). TMU was forced to work from behind for the reminder of the half, leaving the score 0-1. The second half saw the Bears gain momentum as they earned three consecutive corner kicks from the start. TMU followed up with three shots on goal and in the 84th minute, Nour Alamri found the back of the net to make the score even 1-1.
 
As the time ran out in the second half, both teams were unable to break away with the lead, forcing the game to be sent into overtime (1-1). Warner took control of the field in the first 10-minute overtime, but TMU’s defense stayed resilient (1-1). The game was sent into a second overtime, with a wide shot by Alamri in the final minutes as a last attempt for the Bears to score. The Royals earned a final corner kick that proved unsuccessful, ultimately resulting in a final score of 1-1.
 
LEADERS
Alamri led the Bears with one goal and four shots, two on goal, while sophomore Hebert Lima had two shots, one on goal. Smith had two shots, followed by freshman Aidan Tustin, sophomore Lucan Yates, and freshman Jose Ventura, individually had a shot on goal. Junior Justin Hicks and freshman Javier Morales had a shot apiece, while sophomore goalie Riley Powers recorded five saves on the night.
