Local – More than 75,000 customers across Northeast Georgia had power knocked out at some point during Tropical Storm Helene when it blew through the region Friday morning.
As of Sunday morning, Habersham EMC reports that 2,106 residents remain without power. This is down from 6,885 Saturday morning, with the top three counties being Rabun, Habersham, and White counties.
The latest numbers show almost 21%, or 853 HEMC customers in Rabun County still awaiting repair. Habersham County shows 593 (4%), and White County has 427 customers, or just over three percent of subscribers still in the dark.
Duncan Bridge Rd between Hwy 255 and Helen Highway is the largest affected area in White County.
Crews are working to restore power to all affected customers, however, several locations require the removal of fallen trees before work can proceed.
