(Cleveland)- Five White County Ninth Grade Academy students were recognized this week as finalist in the local “Laws of Life” Essay contest. White County Rotary Club along with other Rotary Clubs in the state conduct the contest each year as a character, values and ethical literacy outreach to high school students in the state.
Students are ask to pick a topic and reflect upon and write about key life lessons and character values such as perseverance, generosity, honesty, courage and compassion.
This years honorable mentions went to: Ty Ulrich, for his essay about tradition is a family thing; Thomas Gomes, who wrote about bullying; Evan Windham, who wrote, if you really want to do something you will finish it and Victoria Allison, she wrote about suicide and the death of her uncle.
The local winner, who was awarded $100, was Emily Jones, her essay was about let your faith be stronger than your fears;
Ms. Mandy Housley, English-Language Arts teacher at the NGA was the coordinator for the program. Housley said, these students really got involved in the project and she enjoys watching the students as they work on their essays.
The Rotary club invited each of the honorable mention winners and the top winner to share their essays. White County Rotary President Chris Greene said, “ this is one program he looks forward to each year.”
