(Cleveland)- White County firefighters made a quick save in a Saturday afternoon residential fire.
Bryce Barrett, White County Public Information Officer said White County 9-1-1 communications received the call just after 9 PM Saturday. The caller said they returned to a home filled with smoke.
White County 911 immediately dispatched a residential structure fire assignment to the location on Tow Drive, off Collins Road south of Cleveland. Dispatchers confirmed that the home was unoccupied prior to the arrival of Fire personnel.
Barrett said, “Upon arrival, the first arriving units reported a single-story home on a basement with smoke filling the upper level down to the floor. Fire personnel completed safety measures and made entry to locate the fire and source of the smoke.” Firefighters discovered a fire in the basement and immediately began extinguishing it. The fire was successfully contained and knocked down, according to Barrett.
Barrett said, “Efforts then turned and focused on ventilating the structure, removing smoke, and checking for hotspots or fire extensions.”
Firefighters remained on scene throughout the evening, ensuring the structure was secure and all hotspots were fully extinguished.
Responding agencies included White County Fire, Cleveland Fire, White County EMS, and White County Emergency Management.
Barrett said, “Thanks to their swift actions, the majority of the home was saved, preventing what could have been a far more devastating outcome.” The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is currently under investigation by the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
