(Cleveland)- Chattahoochee United Methodist Church in  Roberstown is one of 70 churches in the state that have announced their disaffiliation from The United Methodist Church primarily because of the denomination’s stance on LGBTQ inclusivity.

Members attending the 2022 North Georgia Annual Conference ratified the disaffiliation agreements with the churches.

A posting on the North Georgia United Methodist Church Conference website said a process for disaffiliation was established by the 2019 General Conference of The United Methodist Church.

In 2021, the Board of Trustees adopted a process and, along with District Superintendents, walked alongside the churches that requested to disaffiliate.

The 70 churches represent 9 percent of the congregations in the Conference and 3 percent of the membership.  The date of disaffiliation is June 30, 2022.

Other churches in the Northeast District who are on the disaffiliation list include Center UMC, Hoschton; Coosa UMC, Union County; Dry Pond UMC, and Gaines Chapel UMC
