INDIANAPOLIS | The University of North Georgia women’s soccer team was selected to the field of 48 teams for the 2015 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship as announced by the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Committee
Monday evening. The national tournament appearance is the fourth in the past five years for UNG.
North Georgia (15-3-1) – the No. 3 seed in the Southeast Region – will face off with sixth-seeded Limestone (16-3-0) in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 1 p.m., at the Walden Soccer Complex in Columbus, Georgia. If the Nighthawks advance past Limestone they would meet second-seeded Columbus State (18-2-1) in the second round on Sunday at 1 p.m., for a chance to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
Whichever team advances out of Columbus this weekend will meet with the other advancing team from the Southeast Region. The other host site includes No. 4-seed Wingate (15-2-2) and No. 5-seed Armstrong State (12-4-3) in the first round with the winner facing No. 1-seed Carson Newman (18-2-0) on Sunday.
This year the highest seed advancing out of the second round in the Southeast Region will host the third and fourth rounds of the tournament the following weekend (Nov. 20 & 22). The Southeast Region is paired with the South Region meaning the champion of each region would play in the fourth round with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals.
The semifinals and championship games will take place December 3 and 5 at Ashton Brosnaham Stadium in Pensacola, Florida hosted by the University of West Florida and the Pensacola Sports Association.
