AMERICUS, Ga. | The No. 12 University of North Georgia baseball team earned a series win against Georgia Southwestern Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of the Hurricanes. The Nighthawks won the first game 6-1 before the offense exploded in game two for an 11-2 win.
GAME ONE In the next inning, Ryan Tomita hit his first of two homeruns in the game. After two Nighthawks reached base, Steven Tomlinson scored on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 3-0. Leading 4-0 in the fifth, Tomita hit his second homerun to left-center field to make the score 5-0. Tomlinson would score on another wild pitch in the eighth to end the Nighthawk scoring. The Hurricanes scored their only run of the contest in the eighth as Zach Barron scored on a Nighthawk error. Brandon Agar pitched eight innings of one-run baseball, giving up six hits and striking out nine Hurricanes in the process to earn his second win of the season. GAME TWO North Georgia wasted no time in tying the game, scoring a Devin Gearhart sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Delgado. Delgado came back to the plate in the fourth and hit a three-run homerun to take the lead 4-1. The Nighthawks scored three in the seventh after Tomlinson tripled to right center to score the first two of the inning. In the next at bat, Bo Edwards doubled to score Tomlinson. The Hurricanes scored in the bottom of the seventh on a Barron solo homerun to score 8-2. Three more Nighthawks crossed the plate in the final frame. Connor Hoover started the scoring on an RBI single that scored two runs after an error by the Hurricane right fielder. Gearhart brought home Hoover in the next at bat. NOTES – Tomlinson finished the day going 5-for-6 at the plate, scoring four of the Nighthawk runs in the doubleheader. – Steven Bower earned his third win of the season in game two after throwing seven innings.
