Mrs. Verlan Louise Harkins, age 93 of Suches, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born on February 7, 1928 in Blairsville, Georgia to the late Tom Penland and the late Bonnie England. She worked for many years at Pinetree in Dahlonega and was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant No. 2 “The Hill Church”. She was a charter member of the Gaddistown Homemakers Club. She loved nothing more than being with family, attending church, quilting and crocheting. She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and especially a loving granny.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eldo Harkins; Siblings, Madison Penland, Era Mae Penland, Lillian Gibson, Allie Rose Buice and Wayman Penland. 

She is survived by children, Margaret (Richard) Hoke of Texas, Craig (Wanda) Harkins of Dahlonega and Phillip (Sheena) Harkins of Murrayville; Brother, Fred (Eleanor) Penland; Grandchildren, Kevin Hoke, Kimberly and Dan Finch, Korey Harkins, Kody Harkins and Kolin Harkins; Special friends, Robert Bridges and Annie Tritt. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm on Monday, January 3, 2022 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Lyman Caldwell, Rev. Kris Butler, and Rev. William Phillips will officiate. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Mt. Pleasant No. 2 “The Hill Church” with Rev. Steve Rhoten officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm.
