Bob grew up in Dahlonega, Georgia, where he graduated from Lumpkin County High School. He attended University of North Georgia (known then as North Georgia College) where he earned a BSBA. In 1960, he married Barbara Henson of Ellijay, Georgia. Last December would have marked their 60th Anniversary.

Bob was a man of dignity, honor, courage, and patriotism. He was a veteran of the United States Army, Security Agency. After a medical discharge, he continued to serve through his work with RCA Service Company on missile test range tracking stations in the Caribbean.
