1SG Alphis Burt Jr., age 71, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022. Alphis was born on August 7, 1951, in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Alphis Burt Sr. and the late Sadie Blackmon Dalton. Aphis was a proud and decorated soldier, retiring from the United States Army in 1993 as a First Sergeant Ranger. Alphis was of the Baptist faith and was an active member of Yahoola Baptist Church until the decline of his health prohibited him from attending.
During the 25 year span of his military career Alphis did two tours in Vietnam, was an instructor at Camp Frank D. Merrill, and also was sent to Germany to start a NCO Academy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mildred W. Burt; children Jody (Daphne) Brookshire and Sherry (Victor) Parker; sisters Sandy (Benny) Gaddis and Geraldine (Herschel) Bateman; brothers and sisters-in-law Leon Thomas, Glenda Caldwell and Debbie and Charlie Hunsinger; grandchildren Christina Starlin, Aaron Parker, Caleb Brookshire, Jillian Melchor, Micah Brookshire, Isaac Parker and Abiela Parker; great grandchildren Michael and Maddox. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with The Rev. Terry Head and The Rev. Michael Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Yahoola Baptist church with The Rev. Kris Butler officiating and military honors being performed. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00AM until the service hour.
