(Cleveland)- A Clermont man was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta last night after his motorcycle crashed about three miles south of Cleveland. Cpl. Cody White with Georgia State Patrol Post 37 in Cumming said, 49-year old Bruce E. Morgan was operating  a 2001 Honda CBR that earlier had been involved in a two-county chase.

White said just before 8:25 PM, that motorcycle crashed on Ga. 11 / U.S. 129 near Tommy Cowart Road in White County. At the time of that wreck, the motorcycle was not being pursued.

“The motorcycle was engulfed in flames and the driver sustained second-degree burns, but non-life-threatening,” White said.

About 15 minutes earlier, Dawson County deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle for no registration on Ga. 400 North near the Lumpkin County line.

According to White, the motorcycle slowed to an apparent stop at Burnt Stand Road then accelerated and failed to yield.

Trooper 1st Class Boykin, who was behind the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office unit, began pursuing the motorcycle on Ga. 400 North to Ga. 115, turning right toward Cleveland.

When the trooper began having radio issues and starting losing sight of the motorcycle, he called off the pursuit via phone and radio just after 8:15 PM.

White said several traffic offenses will be filed against Morgan, including fleeing and attempting to elude, and driving while license suspended.
