Malena Maria Harbin-Brown, age 42, of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023.

Malena was born in Houma, LA, on January 29, 1980. She was preceded in death by her father, John Rick Harbin. Before Malena had to fight her courageous battle with cancer, she was a Communications Officer with Hall County 911. Her career in public service was her passion and calling, be it on a crime scene or behind the radio leading her husband safely through a high-speed chase to catch a dangerous driver (which she did). Malena loved giving her time and talent to others.

One title she earned, “Organized Super Woman,” was seen daily in the care she provided to her family.
Malena was a bright spot in every room she walked in. Not that she demanded it, people would naturally be drawn to her. Malena loved children, and she could get on their level if it meant crawling or playing in the dirt. She was not afraid of the dirt, and when it came time for heels and makeup, she rose to that as well. Malena’s recent days were spent with her high school sweetheart (whom she recently married), traveling, and spending time outdoors catching every sunset she could. With passion, she lived her life, and with compassion, she loved everyone in her life. The world got a little darker Monday when Malena left us; she will be greatly missed.

Missing her most will be her husband, Jamey Brown, Mt. Airy; sons Joshua Sutton, Cleveland; Marc Sutton (Thalya) Peru, IN; stepchildren Logan Brown, Kirstyn Brown, both of Dahlonega; Kalynn Ballard, Camden Brown, Conner Brown, all of Gainesville; granddaughter Laia Sutton, Peru, IN; Mother Stacie Harbin, Dahlonega; siblings Ryan Picou (Lacie), John Michael Harbin (Ashley), Matthew Harbin (Allison), several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2023, in Dahlonega Memorial Park. The Rev. Adam Erwin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday and 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
