(Cleveland)- Truett-McConnell College has announced the employment of former White County High School and Truett-McConnell Alumnus, John Luna, as the new Graduate Assistant Golf Coach. Luna finished his high school career as one of the most decorated golfers in White County history and was also recognized as one of the top golfers in the state of Georgia.

Luna went on to be the first White County High School golfer to commit and sign with the Truett-McConnell Men’s Golf team. Over the past three seasons, Luna has consistently placed in the top five on the team, and he had several top 10 finishes during his collegiate career.

Luna also won the Newcomer Award and the Teammate Award during his time as a student-athlete. In the classroom, Luna was unmatched by his teammates. He won every award he could have, including NAIA All-American Academically and AAC Academic All-Conference during his years on the team.

Head Coach Steve Patton is delighted with the addition of Luna to his coaching roster. “I could not be more excited about having John as our Assistant Coach,” stated Patton. “He has every attribute I am looking for in a fellow mentor. He loves the Lord and is passionate about sharing that with others; he loves his family and friends and the peers that surround him; and he loves those whom he doesn’t even know. As for his golf knowledge and ability, he will be a huge asset to our program. He knows the golf swing mechanics, course management knowledge from a player’s perspective, and what it takes to play at a high level. He also loves this program and has relationships with several returning players which should be invaluable in leading this team into the future.”

Luna is also currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Theology at Truett-McConnell. Luna is the son of Jeff and Sonya Luna.
