CSM Luis Camacho Palacios, age 75, of Dahlonega passed away December 18, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Luis was born in Chilan Kanoa Saipan, Mariana Islands on May 25, 1945 to the late Isabel Camacho and Vicente Palacios. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother CSM Benjamin Palacios and Edward Arnold Palacios; and brothers-in-law Emilio Mazzeo and Daniel Aflleje.
Luis was a CSM in the US Army, where he served 30 years. He is a member of the Ranger Hall of Fame and the National Ranger Association. During his esteemed career, CSM Palacios served from Private to Command Sergeant Major and held every enlisted leadership position from rifle team leader to Battalion CSM. He was the Company First Sergeant of two Ranger Companies, and Command Sergeant Major of three Battalions. Of his 30 years of service, 19 years were spent on airborne status, and 18 years in Ranger units. CSM Luis C. Palacios lived the Ranger Creed and is an inspiration to all Rangers, past, present, and future. Luis loved singing, especially Elvis songs.
Survivors include his wife Cynthia M. Palacios; children Anthony and Christina Palacios of Cumming, Madonna (Palacios) and Andrew Johnson of Henderson, NV, Rebecca (Palacios) and Jeremy Thomason of Dawsonville, Tania (Palacios) and Aaron Mitchell of Asbury, MO, and Domenic and Nicole Palacios of Dawsonville; sisters Frances Aflleje of California and Maggie Mendiola of Guam; brothers John Palacios of Guam, Jose Palacios of California and Ramon Palacios of Saipan; grandchildren Kelly Palacios, Chloe Palacios, Josh Salo, Johnathan Salo, Victoria Salo, Jacob Salo, Kaitlyn Johnson, Madolyn Johnson, Landon Johnson, Kaleb Thomason, Frannie Mitchell, Annabelle Mitchell, Chya Palacios and Taya Palacios; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, December 28, 2020 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Dahlonega. Father Matthew Dalrymple will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Anderson-Underwood funeral home. A private interment will follow on December 29, 2020 at the Georgia National Cemetery.
