(BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. ) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women’s lacrosse team traveled to Montreat College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up. The Lady Bears played with heart all four quarters, but ultimately fell to the Cavilers with a final score of 19-5. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY 

In the first quarter Montreat was first on the board, but freshman Shelby Nail was quick to respond with a goal of her own (2-1). Eager to increase the scoring deficit, Montreat scored nine more goals, forcing the Lady Bears to work hard from behind as they headed into the second quarter (11-1). The Lady Bears fought hard on defense holding the Cavaliers to four goals as they headed into halftime down 15-1. 

In the third quarter, senior Kaitlyn Morgenroth was first to find the back of the net to decrease the gap, while defense held the Cavaliers to two goals (17-2). The final quarter saw three goals by the Lady Bears, with Nail scoring two and sophomore Marlo McBrayer scoring one. TMU fought hard until the end, but it wasn’t enough as the game concluded with a final score of 19-5. 

LEADERS 

Nail led the way with three goals, taking five shots with four on goal and one ground ball. Morgenroth followed with one goal, five shots, three on goal and two ground balls. McBrayer had one goal, taking two shots with one on goal. Katie Smith took six shots with three on goal and one ground ball. Goalie Mackenzie Tyler had three ground balls and seven saves on the day.

The Lady Bears will travel to face off against Brenau University in an AAC match-up on Saturday, March 4. Game time set for 12:00 p.m.
