City Cleveland Logo color(Cleveland)- A local property owner and a prospective  local restaurant owner have  been told by the Cleveland City Council  because they are located outside the city limits they do not have the sewer capacity available to open their business.  Business owner representative Bonita Roberts and Misa Thatsna, who wants to open an extension of her successful Habersham County business,  Mishima Express Japanese Cruise,  at 27 Hope Drive just south of Cleveland appeared before the city council Monday night.

Roberts said they went through the process to get the business ready to open up but at the end were told that the available sewage service was not available.

Cleveland Mayor Don Stanley said because of limited resources  they have to allocate the sewage capacity to businesses outside the city especially those located south of Cleveland on highway 129.

Roberts pleaded  with the council that they might work out some sort of adjustment, but Mayor Stanley said “ we can’t change the allocation because we only have so many gallons down there.”

City council members  said  we have to take care of  city residents and businesses first, citing real estate developer Jadie Hatcher, who attended Monday’s meeting, who has already received approval to have property he owns in that area included in the city.  Hatcher said, he wants to have the sewage service available to prospective businesses he gets to locate here.

Stanley then told  the two, “ anything short of you wanting to annex into the city, that’s your answer, annex into the city and you get the sewage.”

Roberts who indicated they were not looking at coming into the city, said after the meeting they will be exploring all avenues to get the business  open.  Thatsna said 30 percent of her current business comes from   White County.
