(Clarkesville)- Habersham Electric Membership Corporation reports that some members have received telephone calls stating they must pay their power bill over the phone immediately or their service will be interrupted.
Nicole Dover spokesperson for HEMC says a member services representative will never ask for payment over the phone. The only way payments can be made via telephone is through our automated service that you call at 833- 890-9509.
Dover urges customers who receive such call to hang up at once and report the call to their local law enforcement. Do not give out any personal information. Scams become more frequent during the holiday season.
