Harry “Herman” Hooper, age 90, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024 at New Horizon’s Lanier Park following an extended illness.

Mr. Hooper was born June 18, 1934 in Hall County, Georgia to the late James Franklin “Jim” Hooper and Ora Belle Stone Hooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Ernesteen Savage Hooper; brother, James C. Hooper; sister and brother-in-law, Carrie Mae and Henry Maldonado; brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Virginia Hooper.

Herman was a lifetime resident of Gainesville Mill, where he was born and raised. Herman attended Gainesville Mill Elementary School and developed deep roots in the community he cherished. Herman dedicated 25 years of hard work to Gainesville Mill before transitioning to Warren Featherbone, where he continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic for 27 more years until his well-earned retirement. Beyond his professional life, Herman was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, and he spent his life sharing the love of Christ with others.

He was a proud member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge F&AM # 219. He also had a love for antique cars, that was evident through his involvement with the “Old Friends Car Club,” where he proudly displayed his cherished Pontiac Bonneville. Herman also found joy in traveling and playing Santa Claus during the holiday season. Herman’s leaves a legacy of passion for people coming to know the Lord, Jesus Christ and he will always be remembered for his infectious enthusiasm and zest for life.

Survivors include his niece, Barbara Hooper, of Gainesville; nephew and spouse, Ron and Pat Hooper, of Banks County; great-niece and spouse, Dana and Greg Abernathy, Habersham County; good friend, Tammy Hulsey, of Gainesville.

The family would like to extended their gratitude to the staff and residents of New Horizon’s Lanier Park for the care that has been shown as well as their friendships.

Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Latty, Mr. John Latty, Mr. Kerry Smith, and Mr. Ted Marvin officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church prior to the service.
