(Gainesville) – With the inclement weather forecast for the North Georgia ara the Georgia Department of Transportation has announced they began brine treatment of interstates, state routes, bridges, and overpasses Thursday morning in the northern parts of the state in preparation for the wintery precipitation.

Crews in Northeast Georgia will monitor conditions and continue treatment overnight on bridges and roadways in Rabun, White, Towns, Lumpkin, Union, Habersham, and Dawson counties, and continue to treat through the day Friday as needed.

A GDOT spokesperson said,  please be aware of the brine trucks in your areas given they must travel 40 mph to properly apply the treatment. Pay attention to Georgia DOT trucks spreading materials and stay back a safe distance.
