WEST POINT, Ga. (Jan. 15, 2020) – Re’Tavia Floyd’s eight 3-pointers led the Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team past Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Point University (58-57) on the road. The win put the Lady Bears at 9-9, 5-8 AAC on the year, while the Skyhawks fell to 8-11, 5-10 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The first quarter saw the Skyhawks lead by as much as six (4-10) but two straight Floyd 3-pointers sparked an 11-4 closing run by TMU to put them ahead by six at the end of the first quarter (24-18). Quan Holton scored back-to-back buckets in the paint to give the Lady Bears their largest lead of the half (28-18) but Point managed to get head ahead by one with 15 seconds to go before halftime (32-33). However, Camilla Howell found Floyd behind the 3-point arc with two seconds left to claim a two-point advantage at the half (35-33).

Floyd drained another 3-pointer to open up the second half (38-33), Holton followed up with one of her own and Floyd made her seventh 3-pointer within the next minute to allow another double-digit TMU lead (46-35). The Lady Bears got out front by as much as 13 and lead by 11 heading into the fourth (53-42). Although the Skyhawks fought back strong to outscore the Lady Bears 15-5 in the final 10 minutes of regulation, the Lady Bears held off the Skyhawks well enough to pull off the AAC victory on the road (58-57).

LEADERS

All of Floyd’s 24 points came from 3-pointers (8-for-11). The sophomore point guard also added eight rebounds. Holton followed with 15 points and five assists, while Sierra Kendall was one rebound shy of a double-double (10 points, nine rebounds). Kendall also recorded a total of five blocks.

TMU will host another AAC foe, Bluefield College, on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2:00 p.m., inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena.
